Digital Technology Challenge

Digital Technology Challenge

How might your project help improve our quality of life or transform existing products and services through digital devices, methods or systems? Think about apps, coding, AI, sensors, data, or even new ways of using existing tech!

Check out this list of questions to get you thinking about your project, inspire some research, and help you decide what question or problem you might want to investigate.

Brainstorming project ideas:

Quality of Life

  • What’s something in your daily life that feels frustrating or time-consuming? Could technology make it easier?
  • How could you design an app or tool to help people with their health, safety or education?
  • How might digital technology help people with disabilities or specific needs?
  • How could technology help people make better choices (e.g. reducing energy use, saving money, or eating healthier)?
  • How might technology help people in rural or remote areas access resources like education or healthcare?

Products & Services

  • What product or service you use could be improved with digital features (e.g., tracking, reminders, or automation)?
  • How could you combine two existing technologies into something new and useful?
  • How could digital technology help make your school, a local business, or your community better?
  • How can digital technology help reduce environmental impact (e.g., less waste, smarter energy use, monitoring)?

Coding & AI

  • How could you code a current process more efficiently?
  • What are the benefits and limitations to AI? How could you test and evaluate it?
  • How could you make coding or working with AI accessible to more people?
  • What is a bug or coding issue you know about and how might it be fixed?

Data & Systems

  • How could sensors or wearables give people useful information about their health, environment, or habits?
  • How do learning models work? What could you train a learning model to identify or do?
  • How can we use technology to better organize or understand data?
  • How are digital systems protected? What better ways are there to monitor, prevent, or alert cybersecurity incidents?

Remember

Start by picking a topic or idea that sparks your curiosity. Then think about whether you could discover (test an idea through an experiment, research or survey) or innovate (design a new solution) around that problem. Learn more about the difference between Discovery and Innovation projects here.
