Health and Wellness Challenge
How might your project help prevent disease or promote physical, social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, or intellectual wellbeing? Wellness is more than just not being sick! It is about feeling balanced and thriving in life. Start by noticing areas of health that matter most to you, your family and friends, or people in your community.
Check out this list of questions to get you thinking about your project, inspire some research, and help you decide what question or problem you might want to investigate.
Brainstorming project ideas:
Physical Wellbeing
- What simple changes could improve fitness, nutrition, or sleep in your age group?
- How do different types of exercise affect heart rate, focus, or energy?
- How long do the positive benefits of physical activity last?
- How could you design an app, tool or device to make staying active more fun or accessible?
Emotional & Social Wellbeing
- How can activities (e.g. music, art, sports, mindfulness) improve mood or reduce stress?
- Which coping strategies work best for teens when they’re stressed?
- How can technology be used to benefit and support mental health? What harms can technology cause?
Environmental & Occupational Wellbeing
- How does the design of a classroom, workplace, or bedroom affect concentration or comfort?
- How could reducing noise, clutter, or screen time improve health?
- What is a safety issue people face at work? How could it be addressed?
Intellectual & Spiritual Wellbeing
- How do hobbies, games, or puzzles support brain health and creativity?
- How do short breaks affect focus during activities (e.g., homework, studying, learning lines for a play, doing detailed art or engineering projects)?
- What role do traditions, rituals, or reflection activities play in overall wellbeing? How can we measure this?
Remember
Start by picking a topic or idea that sparks your curiosity. Then think about whether you could discover (test an idea through an experiment, research or survey) or innovate (design a new solution) around that problem. Learn more about the difference between Discovery and Innovation projects here.
